Singapore General Elections has come and gone.
As this year's general elections signals a wind of change in Singapore politics it has been shown in the number of seats in parliament contested and the percentage voted for the opposition (~40%). However, it is not indicated of the number of seats in parliament.
6 seats won by Worker's Party in Hougang SMC and Aljunied GRC.Congratulations for the success in such a memorial win. However, it is only constitute 6% of the total number of seat.
I hope this is a wake up call for the ruling party People's Action Party to listen to the Singaporeans more. I also hope that the Opposition will not be disheartened by these result and that heart that their achieve a landmark in Singapore, please keep up the good work, your efforts are greatly appreciated.
My hopes to have different voices in parliament is starting to root and perhaps in my life time, I see that Singapore politics will represent the vast diversity of it's Nation, where it is of the people for the people.
Maybe a word of note of the Singapore government for the next 5 years. Please take a serious look into our economic policies. We need a robust policy to help us the average Singaporeans stem the tide of inflation and other external forces.
I would like to say thanks to Mr Chiam See Tong, for the years of service to the country as a questioning voice to help represent and good percentage of Singaporean with a curious and inquiring mind, be bold to challenge not for the winning and losing, but as a form of debate to encourage better policies for the betterment of the people. Mr Chiam, thank you for your contribution.
I would like to say thanks to Mr George Yeo, for your service to the country. You have done a good job as the MP and a Foreign Minister. I hope that you will not be disheartened by the election results. Perhaps you can ride this winds of change as well.
As for me, what I hope to see in the next General Elections is more Opposition members stepping up to challenge the ruling party and provide a different voice as I see that the ruling party is quite removed from the average Singaporean. We Singaporeans need them to come down to our level and live in our shoes. We need leaders that understand us and knows our concerns.
